For many muscle car enthusiasts, nothing but an old-school Pontiac GTO will do. After all, it started the midsize muscle car revolution back in 1964 and won over legions of fans with its sharp styling and strong performance. Throw in a 4-speed and a drop top and you’ve increased the fun factor big time. Here we have a gorgeous example of a 1970 GTO convertible that does just that. Talk about checking the boxes – this Goat has had just one very caring owner, still retains its original body panels and powertrain, is rock solid top to bottom and sports a 4-speed. The impressive documentation includes the original bill of sale from the Pontiac dealer, the original title and even the original financing documents from GMAC. Walk around the car and you can’t help but be impressed with the arrow straight panels, even panel gaps and beautiful high-quality respray in the correct Bermuda Blue hue. The various chrome and stainless-steel trim is likewise brilliant. A brand-new white convertible top (with glass rear window) that's never been down and a set of factory Rally II wheels wearing Firestone radials completes the considerable curb appeal. The underside, which was undercoated by the dealership when the car was new, is impressively clean as well. Swing open the door and you’ll note the fine condition of the interior. Apart from a correct replacement carpet and recovered center console, everything is original, including the upholstery and door panels. A trio of aftermarket gauges and a tach keep tabs on the 400, while a factory 8-track player resides at the front of the console. The trunk compartment with its correct spatter paint looks factory fresh, as does the mat, spare and its accessories. A convertible top boot and a car cover (seen in trunk photo) are included as well. Pop the hood and you’re greeted with 400 cubic inches of numbers-matching Pontiac power. That original mill was rebuilt about 10 years ago and features a performance cam that adds around 15 horsepower. It sends the horses to the factory-issued wide-ratio 4-speed gearbox and on to the 3.55-geared Safe-T-Track rear end. Power steering and power four-wheel disc brakes (an upgrade the owner had done) round out the car's impressive hardware. As you might expect, the GTO runs and drives fantastic while the quad-outlet exhaust with its Flowmaster mufflers provides the proper rocking soundtrack whether it’s at a red light or being run through the gears on your favorite deserted back road.
